1. Can the operator raise a breakdown in seconds?

The person standing at the machine should be able to report a stoppage without finding a computer. Look for a QR or barcode tag on each machine that a technician scans on a phone to open the job card and log the fault. If reporting is hard, it will not happen, and your data will be incomplete.

2. Does preventive maintenance run on its own?

3. Are spares held against each machine?

4. Do the numbers build themselves?

MTTR, MTBF, downtime hours and PM compliance should be a by-product of the work, computed from the records technicians create — not a monthly spreadsheet exercise. If someone is re-keying data into a report, the numbers will be late and wrong.

5. Will the vendor implement it with you?
